Line extension for the new tram line no. 10 in Brussels

Information

EQOS Energie has contributed to the expansion of the tram line in the Neder-Over-Heembeek district of Brussels on behalf of the STIB/MIVB public transportation company. As part of the “MOVE NOhW” project, the connection between this rapidly growing district and the city centre was improved with the new tram line no. 10. To this end, EQOS Energie newly constructed the track systems including about 17 kilometres of catenary lines.

The line was extended in nine subproject zones and 19 construction phases. In this multidisciplinary project, EQOS Energie was also responsible for coordinating and harmonising the construction work with the various contractors involved. This included e.g., track and road construction as well as municipal utilities. One special challenge involved the construction of 233 masts including their foundations. Due to the high groundwater level on site, an 18-metre deep micropile foundation was used for 118 of the masts.
During the final construction phase, EQOS Energie was on site with sometimes as many as 20 experts to ensure that the line was completed on schedule and ready for use by the public transport company’s driving school before the actual commissioning.

With the expansion of the tram network in Brussels, EQOS Energie makes a contribution to promoting environmentally friendly public transportation: Tram line no. 10 will not only provide a better connection of the Neder-Over-Heembeek district to important mobility hubs all the way to the city centre but also contribute to reducing emissions as a result.
