Modernisation of 300 km of high-voltage line

Information

On behalf of Stromnetz Hamburg GmbH, EQOS Energie replaced about 300 kilometres of ground wire and conductors in four 110-kV overhead line systems. The cable installation took place in a section of about 12 kilometres between two substations in Wedel and Hamburg-West. The modernisation will ensure that the lines meet the new grid requirements in the long term and that supply for the metropolitan region will continue in the future.

The modernisation work included the dismantling of two aerial cables as well as replacing the stranding on four systems and one fibre optic cable. In order to guarantee the power supply during the work, EQOS Energie set up a temporary solution in advance that enabled two lines to be switched off temporarily without any problems.
The work in the city also required special safety precautions and compliance with various traffic regulations in order to restrict daily operations within the urban areas as little as possible. For example, scaffolding was erected to protect pedestrians and necessary full road closures were put in place during the night. In addition to the overhead line work, EQOS Energie also performed organisational and administrative tasks, such as obtaining official permits and the necessary coordination with property owners.
