Foundation and mast installation work on the S7 Rapid Transit Line

Information

In the spring of 2024, EQOS Energie was commissioned by ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG to install a catenary line system for the S7 Rapid Transit Line between Petronell-Carnuntum and the spa town of Bad Deutsch Altenburg. This project ensured that the single-track line was rendered fit for the future.

For the new construction, a total of 146 catenary masts ranging in height from 10 to 16 metres and weighing up to 12 tonnes were used along the six-kilometre stretch. To carry out the work efficiently, only a few foundations were cast in concrete; the majority were driven into the ground. A rail-mounted crane truck, or a so-called Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), was used for this purpose.

To minimise disruption to the heavily used rapid transit service, the work was carried out in two phases: During the first construction phase, all work was carried out at night; during the second, the summer holidays were used to implement a closure with as little disruption to travel as possible.
